This report, drawing on cases such as social media, international student exchange programs, and language courses, explores how social networks influence language transmission and second language learning, including the spread of new words, the effect of peer interaction on learning outcomes, and how language is acquired and stabilized within social structures.
The lecture also emphasizes combining computational (quantitative) and anthropological (qualitative) methods to understand the relationship between language, communities, and human behavior from a whole-network perspective, and further addresses broader sociological and anthropological issues such as innovation diffusion, community formation, and social embeddedness.
